East Lake
In 1995, the East Lake Foundation was established to help transform the neighborhood and create new opportunities for the families who live here. Since then, the Foundation has helped to establish better housing, the Charles R. Drew Charter School (Atlanta Public Schools' first charter), the East Lake Community Learning Garden and Urban Farm, YMCA, the East Lake Early Learning Academy, and the Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Center. East Lake Foundation has dedicated its efforts to breaking the cycle of poverty formerly found in this area by creating and funding educational, recreational, and self-sufficiency programs for local residents, while providing amenities that attract mixed-income residents and private investment to the community.
