Avondale Estates
Avondale Estates, founded by George Francis Willis in 1924, was named after Stratford-upon-Avon, England, birthplace of Shakespeare. Downtown buildings are designed in a Tudor style to reinforce this image as well as many other houses in the city. The City is known for its close-knit community, beautiful setting, and diverse architectural styles. In 'This Old House' online magazine, the City of Avondale Estates is featured as one of the "Best Old House Neighborhoods 2012". The article features neighborhoods from coast to coast where you can find one-of-a-kind period homes.
Community amenities for residents include Lake Avondale, tennis courts, parks, and a swimming pool for residents. A selection of art galeries and studios make their home in an area of the city known as the Rail Arts District. Academy Theatre, the longest running professional theater in Georgia, is also located in Avondale Estates.
Avondale Estates residents are zoned for the DeKalb County School System with the exception of The Museum School of Avondale Estates.
